Prevention

The good news is that you don't have to become a statistic. There are simple measures you can take and questions you can ask yourself or a family member that could help reduce your risk and prevent you or a loved one from becoming a victim of sudden cardiac arrest or other potentially fatal heart disorder.

A good preventative measure is a sports screening physical with cardiac testing. This type of physical uses both electrocardiogram (ECGs) and echocardiography exams, which may help uncover serious genetic heart conditions like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) - a congenital cardiovascular condition that causes excessive thickening of the heart muscle and can potentially lead to sudden cardiac arrest.
