Sports & Asthma

Realizing your limits is very important when you have asthma and are active. Follow your physician's advice, use your medication properly and communicate about your condition.

Understand how to react if your student athletes have asthma, a serious chronic lung condition characterized by episodes or attacks of inflammation, by ensuring that they:

  • Take their medicine regularly
  • Take the appropriate amount of medicine
  • Keep their inhaler with them at all times
  • Tell their friends and teachers that they have asthma
  • Do not limit themselves or stop playing sports because of their asthma
  • Determine what triggers their asthma attacks
  • Try not to be outdoors on windy days anymore than necessary
